All samples should be dropped off in LM437 in the Lash Miller Chemical Laboratories with the appropriate submission form. For external submissions, please contact us before shipping a sample to the facility.

Rates

General Policies

To encourage sample submission, there is no cost for sample mounting and cell indexing. There is also no fee if the structure of the sample cannot be determined. Samples that correspond to a previously reported or collected structure (by unit cell parameters or preliminary data solution) will be stopped unless the full data is requested by the submitter, in which case the standard rate applies.

If a data collection is cancelled for whatever reason (e.g. the structure is not what you wanted) and there is absolutely no desire to collect a refined .cif file, the standard data collection rate applies. If it is cancelled within ~ 1 hour of experiment time, an hour of instrument usage will be charged instead.

Single-crystal structure determination

A full structure determination typically goes through the following steps:

• Sample inspection
• Crystal mounting
• Unit cell indexing
• Data collection and processing
• Structure solution and refinement
• Creation of publication-ready files (.cif files, tables, figures, pictures, etc.)

Single-crystal data collection

For U of T users familiar with structure solution and refinement, a discounted rate is available and the submitter will receive the integrated and scaled data. A single-crystal data collection includes:

• Sample inspection
• Crystal mounting
• Unit cell indexing
• Data collection and processing

Hourly instrument usage

For non-routine diffraction experiments (e.g. powder XRD in capillaries) on the Apex DUO, hourly rates outlined above apply.
